Vertical and Horizontal Launch Solutions Across Australia and the USA

Space Centre Australia provides a dual-continent launch capability built to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving space sector. Through our facilities in Cape York, Queensland and Wallops Island, Virginia, we will soon be offering both vertical launch and horizontal airborne deployment, serving commercial, defence, and research clients worldwide.

Australia – Atakani Space Centre (Cape York)

Currently in advanced design and development, the Atakani Space Centre will become Australia’s premier vertical launch facility, offering end to end sovereign launch services. Located 43km from Weipa in a low population, unrestricted airspace corridor, Atakani will support a wide range of orbital trajectories including polar, sun-synchronous, and equatorial orbits.

Once operational, Atakani will provide:

  • Full-service mission integration and payload handling

  • Vehicle assembly, launch, telemetry, and recovery services

  • Support for commercial satellite deployment and government missions

  • ITAR-compliant and MTCR-aligned infrastructure for international launch clients

This site is being developed to provide a complete launch ecosystem from pre-launch integration to post-launch telemetry enabling Australia’s position as a global space launch provider.

USA – Wallops Island Operations (Virginia)

At our U.S. base in Wallops Island, Space Centre Australia LLC will soon deliver responsive horizontal launch services and airborne science missions through Project Karman Line. This initiative leverages modified large cargo aircraft, including the C-130J Super Hercules, for high-altitude launch deployment of small satellites and sounding rockets.

Our Wallops operations provide:

  • Horizontal launch services using wet-hire aircraft and deployable launch stacks

  • Airborne science support, including stratospheric sampling, atmospheric research, and suborbital experimentation

  • Rapid-response mission capability for government, defence, and R&D applications

  • Integration with NASA Wallops Flight Facility and Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport infrastructure

Together, our sites in Australia and the USA form a powerful, flexible, and globally interoperable launch network capable of serving civil space, commercial innovation, and strategic defence objectives across both hemispheres.
